Writing Assignment 1

As Ken said, it was difficult for me now to envision my future like post ICU , but I tried doing that.

Long-Term Vision

Since I was little, I have always thought that I would like to contribute to making the world without poverty. However, it seemed that working at the International Institutes such as the United Nations and the World Bank (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development) was quite a big dream for me, and working as a staff of NGO seemed also hard because that does not always make my life easy. And then I found so-called “new-mark”, which is to find the way that corporations can solve the problem of the world through the business.

Therefore my long-term vision is, though it is uncertain, getting a job after graduating ICU. After acquiring the skills working there, I would like to be the person who can make use of the company’s ability to contribute to solving the problems while the company is developing. In order to be such person, many kinds of skills would be necessary. For example, the ability to find the problem and solve it, to come up with the ideas, and to lead the organization with strong will, I want to learn the leadership skill in this Sophomore English course.

Short-Term goal

As I mentioned in “Long-Term Vision”, I am interested in how corporations have to do with the worldwide problems such as poverty and environmental problems, and I am thinking that making my major Developing Studies. However, there is requirement related to grades to select that major and therefore my Short-Term Goal is to get the grade which meets that requirement. In this semester, I take two courses of developing studies and I have to get good grades of them.

In order for that I have to be able to keep up with classes, so I should read required readings before every class, ask questions to teachers actively, and fulfill the assignments in time. The one assignment is Group Work and we are going to analyze the relation between corporations, which consider the worldwide problem, and NGO. We will actually visit and talk with them, so I am looking forward it. Everyone in the group is highly motivated, and they stimulate me to work hard.

I am busy in this semester because I have club activity and part-time job so it may not be easy to get good grades, but I will try hard with good time management.

  1. Hi Yoko,

It's great that you are interested in the interface between corporations and development, and that ultimately you want to help those in need in developing countries. This should be a great way for you to stay involved in English too.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Ken
